As many would be aware ASQA is undertaking a strategic review this year of a number of courses including the “White Card” course.
They have received a number of reports of sub-standard courses being offered by a variety of training organisations. Courses being delivered online have come under additional scrutiny. They are concerned “particularly whether students are assessed on the communication and comprehension skills required under the training package and whether the RTOs are certain of the identity of the person completing the assessment online.”
Online training is an unstoppable wave of educational evolution with enormous potential benefits to students, the community and to business. While poor or dubious quality online White Card courses may incur the wrath of ASQA, it’s all poor and dubious quality courses that are eroding confidence and slowing the acceptance, of this mode of training.
By making webcams a mandatory part of undertaking a White Card (and other) courses and requiring students to demonstrate “comprehension and communication” using webcam video response technologies, confidence and compliance can be re-instated.
Students also benefit by utilising this technology. They are not required to print out Statutory Declarations and find JP’s. The whole process is then paperless, efficient and thorough.
